You bet! Use the 6" auger if you are setting the posts with concrete. 8" works if you are planning on packing the posts in with dirt. This would give you about two inches of packing room on each side of the post.
This same method follows when digging for other various sized holes; 1" packing room for concrete, 2" packing room for dirt.
